Browniecam.com goes commercial to survive
Dear visitor, in 2023 it was 25 years ago that I put my first Brownie camera on the internet, not yet in a separate website but part of a homepage, from 2004 this changed into a separate website, after years of collecting and research this website is the result I share with the world.
I am still satisfied with the result, with the design used I also tried to make the website a bit more cheerful compared to the regular overview websites. I stopped collecting cameras years ago and the hobby has become somewhat flat and maintaining the website is no longer a given. To keep the website online, I placed advertisements on the website years ago. I stopped this in 2018 with the introduction of the updated website that also ran under this new domain name: browniecam.com.
In March 2023, when payment had to be made for another year, I decided to stop this website. After the announcement on my personal Facebook page, I received responses that made me reconsider my decision to stop this website.
In 2023 I started to make the website cost-covering with advertisements. I also have a Paypal button below this text where fans can donate. All donations and advertising revenue will be used solely to maintain this website. Sorry that the carefully thought-out design of the website is disrupted by screaming ad blocks.
Kind regards Remy Steller
In 2004 I decided to put my collection of Brownie box cameras on the internet, my assumption was that it would be easy to consult the collection, the website was created with the Trellix program, part of Corel’s WordPerfect which was later sold under the name CuteSITE Builder . After the CuteSITE Builder program was discontinued in 2006, the entire website had to be rebuilt with new software, this time with Serif WebPlus. In 2009 www.browniecamera.nl was registered and the website now had its own domain name, after a few years in 2014 the option to use .camera as a domain name became available, the site www.browniecamera.nl was closed and the content was moved to www.BROWNIE.camera, but again in 2019 the website had to be moved, the domain name brownie.camera became too expensive for me as a private person to maintain, for some reason the advertisements no longer work and the website no longer paid for itself due to the advertising revenue.
Also, the old website was no longer suitable for use on mobile providers and to make matters worse, the website development program Serif WebPlus that I worked with since 2014 was no longer developed and discontinued, so reason enough to restart this considerably large job . In order to be able to lift the new site along with the old site, many links were made from the old site to the new one, and the updated website was put online as quickly as possible, including the Hawkeye cameras and the disposable cameras section.
The domain name
After considering all options, the name Brownie Cam Com was chosen, a name Cam is contemporary and easy to remember.
The domain name www.browniecam.com was registered on March 28, 2019 and on June 1, 2019, the Brownie part of the new website was ready and all links from the old website linked to the new one, which had a positive effect on the ranking in Google.
Any tips or improvements are very welcome, although major changes are made with caution because this often means that dozens of pages have to be corrected.
I hope you feel at home on this website and that I can greet you here often.
Most Brownie Box cameras, single use cameras and some Hawkeye and Movie cameras on this website are in my private collection. I was able to sell the collection to several enthusiastic collectors in 2023 and I now only have my first Brownie from the collection, the Six-20 Brownie B (number 014 in the overview) and not to forget, we still have the photos.
